The main body of the round is printed as a single piece from silver PLA with a layer height of 0.2-0.3. The fuses are all printed in black TPU which makes the fuse a little bit rubbery; you can crush the fuse in your fingers and it will come back to shape. The rounds are quite strong for their weight, and, in testing, have held up to about 3 or so firings before losing a fin or suffering other damage. Some were damaged on the first shot some many many shots later. Even when damaged, they seem to remain usable for another shot or two. These look very good but are tuned more for strength and good layer adhesion over surface finish. The fuses often have a lack of skin on the very top, some print better than others. To add powder to the nose cone, stuff the 3 vent holes in the plug with some cotton balls or similar material. They are sold unpainted. I recommend standard Rust Oleum deep forest green or a similar camo green color. The bouncing rounds were always green, never red and I am unsure if Tan was ever used. The green color seems to have been reserved for these rounds. The fuse itself does not need to be painted as the correct fuse for this type of round was the aluminum Wgr. Generally a tail fin will be the first thing to go, which are replaceable on this round. These rounds are a balance of durability and cost. I could make them almost indestructible, but then they would cost significantly more and rounds will go missing over time anyway so it is more practical to error on the more inexpensive side.

Disclaimer: These are not intended to be fired directly at anyone or anyone's property or animals etc...The rounds should only be fired at an angle greater than 45degrees. The safety features are intended to help mitigate potential damage from a misplaced round. Safety should always be your first concern so think before you drop a round somewhere.

Safety for reenactment projectiles is a complicated subject and there are many opinions. It generally comes down to 1 thing in the end, the force a projectile will have on impact. This is determined by the size, weight, and the material the round is made from. A rubber round is still dangerous if it weighs too much because it would still have considerable energy to transfer to whatever it hits. You want to balance the weight of a projectile with its size and wind resistance. For an 8cm sized round the maximum safe weight is about 12oz. for a 5cm projectile it is about 7oz. While soft materials can absorb some energy to soften a blow, the weight to size ratio is far more important than the rigidity of the material.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0187/4100/products/WWII_German_8cm_81mm_mortar_Wgr.39_Bouncing_Betty_Mortar_round_3d_Printed.jpg?v=1742337047
8cm-stencil-set-for-steel-boxes-3d-printed
8cm Stencil Set for Steel Boxes 3D Printed

3D printed stencil set for the steel 8cm Gr.W.34 mortar cans. Upjohn was an antibiotic pill intended to be taken if you were wounded. Ideally you should print this from clear resin in a resin printer. To get a remotely good result, you would need a very high resolution printer with very small layers around 0.02mm or smaller if possible and you should use as few supports as possible placed in locations that won't effect the clear effect or look of the printed part. These are very tricky to print and get right. There is a reason I do not sell the printed containers. This is how it was supplied originally, find your own twigs.

The resin used is quite durable but is moderately heat sensitive. It should be fine in most scenarios, but if you store this on the dash of your car in summer, some parts might warp a bit. The hospital can find and dig out metal shrapnel but clear glass shards are nearly impossible to find. This is a somewhat iconic and historically significant piece of ordnance history. I am very happy with how this turned out because most displays are made with more original components and nice examples of those are practically non-existent making this a much nicer display option if you want to show what it looked like when it was made. It was a cheap and effective mine as it was above ground and the tripwire allowed it to cover a large area without relying on someone to step directly on it. For paint, I recommend either Dupli-color Dessert Sand or Krylon Matte Spanish Moss (its a hideous green but extremely close to originals). Its like a model kit. Completed, painted pieces are shown in the pictures as an example. The fuse threads directly into the 3D printed mine and actually seats deeper into the body than an original to help support it. The wood post inserts deeper into the mine body with a bit of clearance between it and the bottom of the fuse. Since we did not need to leave room for the Bohrpatrone 28 charge, this makes the whole thing more stable.

Although these are part of our "cheap and cheerful" line of reenactment items, they are still really good. The "mine" is designed to fit over a pressure treated 2x2 (1 3/8" X1 3/8") wood stake. And there are 2 different sized holes off set from one another by 45 degrees to allow for potential swelling or shrinkage of the wood while maintaining a decent fit. This also creates a sizeable vent area around the stake which directs any gasses directly downward for safety. I will not suggest that you attempt to do anything with these for reasons. It was a cheap and effective mine as it was above ground and the tripwire allowed it to cover a large area without relying on someone to step directly on it. This makes it a perfect mine to use for reenacting. You can cover a large area, the mine sits above the ground so when people hear it, they will also see it and they are easy to set up.

These are provided basically straight off the printer. All you really need to do is paint them, put them together, and devise your trip wire. Since we did not need to leave room for the Bohrpatrone 28 charge, the stick can fit deeper and makes the whole thing more stable.

Although these are part of our "cheap and cheerful "line of reenactment items, they are still really good. Just because a 209 primer fits in the fuse and is a reasonable balance of loud, safe, and cheap doesn't mean you should go around trying this.

Includes:

6 X Stock mine 43's

6 X Wooden Stakes

6 X ZZ 42 Fuses

6 X Replacement ZZ 42 Spring Housing

6 X Replacement ZZ 42 Base

What you need to complete them (NOT included):

Trip wire (I recommend OOK green 24gauge wire)

A stake to tie off to on the other end

Paint

Recommended set up: Make yourself a stake out of cheap lumber either 2x2 or 1x2 material. There is a gap in this seal where the wire comes in from either end. The wire was supposed to fill this space to make a nearly water proof container for the wire connection. Issued FF33 wire would have been a nice diameter to achieve this.

Field phones, as a general rule, used only a single line, using the ground for the second. Inside there is a knurled nut inside for a secure connection. A great communications accessory which has become hard to find over the years and which has always been under utilized in the hobby, in my opinion. You can actually interchange the top or bottom with an original, but the knob itself is not usable on an original.

These are quite hefty in construction, but the knob is the weakest link. It works just fine and will work for a long time provided you don't ask a gorilla to put it together. You do not need to wrench this down hard, a snug fit is plenty. The wire connection is made inside with a steel nut so cranking this down as hard as you can isn't going to improve anything. The knob is prone to breaking around the threaded area if overtightened. I made this area as strong as I could without distorting the dimensions too much, but the interrupted thread that holds the knob onto the body is slightly larger. To remove the knob, you have to pull it outward a bit and turn it backwards as it is a left hand thread.

These are provided lightly assembled and straight off the printer. They look good and are usable as is, but you can sand down the little bumps left over from the support material and hit these with a clear coat for a great finish but that's just for the over achievers out there. When you're done with that, I would recommend gluing the threaded stud into the base and maybe glue the washer down as well.

If there is actually a decent demand for these, I might revisit this again later and go a little bit further with more metal components to re-enforce the knob. But for now, I honestly don't know if this is just something that only I care about or if other comms guys want more of these in the hobby as well. At least now you can have 5 for less than the cost of one original. I was always a bit worried to take out my originals, too easy to misplace or have one of the line runners just lose or not collect.

3D printed resin replacement lid for 5L and 10L trinkwasser cans which have the wire type latch (see pictures).
