Description
Vintage WWI sweetheart purse featuring a US solider and his sweetheart with US flags and a poem on one side and the US army eagle on the other side. There is a bead tassel sewn into the bottom. The bag looks to be made of silk. The side with the poem is a light pink color and the side with the eagle is an off-white color. It is lined in a lightweight thin aqua colored material. The rope handles have a gold colored material twisted into an off-white material.
It is in very good condition; I have never seen a silk piece in such nice shape - this purse must never have been used! There are no holes or rips. All of the beads on the tassel appear to be present. There are a few tiny specks here and there but nothing very detracting. There may be a few slight runs in the material of the purse or lining.
The purse itself measures 12 3/8" long and 7 1/8" wide. The tassel measures about 2 1/4" long.
In case it is not completely clear in the photos, the text on the purse reads: "For The Flag and You JUST HELLO I'd like to be with you awhile and hear about the folks. I'd like to sit and see you smile at the same old jokes, But since you are so far away I cannot hope to go. I'll send along this little token, just to say Hello."
