  • Description

This is a water transfer decal for German vehicles which is a warning to keep an eye on your engine temperature. Roughly translated it reads "Important, for performance and endurance 75-85 degrees mind your water temperature."  The original artwork was found on a Ford maultier but I believe it was a more generic decal which likely appeared on numerous vehicles as all would have had similar operating temperatures.  On the Ford, the arrow roughly pointed in the direction of the temperature gauge. I had to do a little guess work with some of the language on the label but I believe it to be correct.

These decals are not perfect but they do look pretty good and really bring the cab of your truck to life. Printing decals has proven to be a tricky process, and I have come to just except there will be some small errors. This is a very difficult thing to research so in the end, I did have to do some guess work. There is so little information out there that it is unlikely that anyone would be able to know enough to find any fault with it. Someone that has researched this is more likely to accept this than someone that hasn't.

    Decal placement

This decal should roughly point in the direction of the temp gauge although it should still be square with the dash. On the Ford, it was placed on the crown of the dash just left of center almost above the temperature gauge.

    Application Instructions:

    Step 1.

Lay out supplies; water based polyurethane clear, a paintbrush, paper towels, a saucer or bowl, masking tape and material, and your decal. While it is possible to use clear enamel paint, it is far less forgiving and can melt the decal. Other forms of glue are also suitable like Elmers glue or wood glue.

    Step 2.

Mask off the area where the decal is to be applied. leave a 1/16" to an 1/8" gap around the decal.

    Step 3.

Fill the saucer with warm, slightly soapy water and set the decal into it. Keep the decal submersed and un roll it as it curls up. Poke the decal with the paintbrush until you can see the decal floating separate of the backing paper. You only want the decal to be separating from the backing paper but you do not want to completely remove the decal from the paper.

    Step 4.

Apply the polyurethane to the masked off area and retrieve the decal. Position the decal and slip it off of the backing paper. The paint brush can be helpful in this process.

    Step 5.

Use the brush to position the decal while brushing bubbles out from under the decal by brushing from the center of the decal towards the outside edges.

    Step 6.

Very lightly dab the decal area dry with a paper towel. At this point you can either remove your masking material and let the decal dry or you can add another clear coat over top and then remove the masking material.

*Important: do not apply the polyurethane until the decal is ready to apply to prevent it from drying out much before the decal is applied. The water on the decal will dilute and thin the polyurethane but this helps adhere the decal.

Each decal will come with a test or practice decal. This is a decal with a printing error.
