Original WWI German aluminum mess kit. Ambos of Dresden 1914. It has been painted over rather sloppily in brown paint and the strap loop at the bottom of the handle is a little crushed. Other than that, this is a great mess kit. The inside is insanely clean for the age and looks basically unused and nearly brand new. It does have the spoon mounting pieces which is, in my opinion, one of the coolest features of the WWI mess kit. This is a pretty good example. The brown paint is clearly very old and it does appear that the kit was raw aluminum before it was painted so it is possible that the brown is period work. I am not sure if it would be wise to strip the paint and redo it or not. The enameled ones are more desirable and more expensive, but the aluminum holds up so much better.
