Beautiful prewar original German desk lamp with a marble base and adjustable angle shade. It has a push button on the base of a design typical of the era. These buttons always looked sort of postwar to me, but I have seen enough datable examples and documentation to know its 100% correct. These lights could be used on a desk but many were also wall mounted. For example mounted to a wall above a bed as a reading light.
This style of light was big in the prewar/ Weimar era. I have seen them in catalogs from the 1920's and late 30's. The shade is made from glass. The cord should be replaced as it is a little frayed, but it is in working order. You just need an American bulb and a plug adapter. The plug end is quite old, as it is ceramic. It is probably from the 1920's as Bakelite and rubber had already mostly taken over by the 1930's. There is a little bit of tarnish on the metal parts, but its just about the perfect amount to provide the lamp with character. This is a very elegant light, far more beautiful than anything you are likely to buy today. If you want your desk to make a statement, this will do it.
