WWII Cadet Nurse summer uniform jacket.

    Measurements (approximate):
    Bust - 38"
    Waist - 33"
    Length - 24 1/2"

Striped summer weight tunic. Cadet nurse patch on one sleeve. The buttons show wear and discoloration. There are some light brown/ yellow stains and a black speck above one pocket. The shoulder epaulets look handmade. The underside of the epaulets is a slightly different color than the rest of the jacket. The size tag is completely washed out. This has not been laundered (if you decide to clean it, make sure to remove the buttons or they will rust and stain the jacket; the epaulets may also color bleed).

A little about the Cadet Nurse program: To recruit as many women as possible, the requirements for joining were not set high. Women between the ages of 17 and 35 with high school education and in good health could apply. Marriage as a student was permitted. Cadet nurses received federal funds for tuition, board, room and uniforms (indoor and outdoor) in addition to a regular monthly allowance. Many cadet nurses later became army nurses.
