Vintage WWI brooch made from an artillery shell band. Gruss a. Sedan (greetings from Sedan). During WWI, Sedan France was occupied by the Germans for four years. The brooch is in decent shape. The pin on the back is a little loose and doesn't stay hooked very well. There is a little loop, but whatever was hanging there (probably a little iron cross) is missing. Wear and minor cracking / chipping to the white "Gruss a Sedan" piece.
I am unsure of the history of this piece, but sometimes soldiers who were wounded by shrapnel, would turn the piece into something artistic to show what had happened.
