The goal was to have five times the lifespan of an ordinary drinking glass, but fifteen times lifespan was achieved. Other advantages included heat resistance, stackability, and lighter weight. The DDR regarded a super strong glass product as a key potential export and gave it priority for development. Originally called CEVERIT, the name was changed to Superfest to better appeal to foreign countries.
