  • Description

Original 1940's Edeka grocery store receipts with prices in Rm (Reichsmarks) and Rpf (Reichspfenning). You will receive a set of 2 receipts; both the customer copy and the store copy. Edeka is exactly the sort of store you might visit before departing for the front in order to buy some basic necessities. Perfect for any detail oriented reenactor. The date on the receipts is "194_" The back of the customer receipt has an advertising note for Hausfrauen (housewives) saying that whatever they are looking for is hiding at Edeka.

Edeka is the largest supermarket chain in Germany and was founded in 1898. The Edeka company has a very interesting history as it managed to survive so much. It had 524 co-ops in Germany before WWII broke out (the receipt mentions having 525 locations so it must be very early 1940s). Between 1936 and 1939 Edeka was hit with intense regulations and controlled prices. In spite of huge losses, Edeka proved to be a stable company, even when in 1943 its Berlin headquarters office was bombed and burned down.
