Description
Nice display ready glass mine, Glasmine 43, made from a mix of original and 3D printed parts. The main body and pressure plate are original glass parts. Everything else are new made 3D printed reproductions, except for the thin glass top plate which is plexiglass so it will not break.
All of the components are highly detailed. The fuse is actually fitted with a spring loaded plunger, so technically you can pull the safety clip and "set it off" but it doesn't have any of the internal parts that would make it actually work. It can be a pain to reset, so I don't recommend playing with that feature. The charge block is sealed with a paper label, so to assemble it, you will have to poke through the paper, but I leave that to you. I used a separate block for the fully assembled picture just to show how it looks all put together. The only thing you need are some sticks to put under the pressure plate, but I think most people will be able to find their own twigs. This is how it was supplied originally, find your own twigs.
The resin used is quite durable but is moderately heat sensitive. It should be fine in most scenarios, but if you store this on the dash of your car in summer, some parts might warp a bit. Its not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind.
The glass mine was a late war expedient design which reduced the need for strategic materials, namely metal, and also made the mine cheap, harder to detect, and as a byproduct, it also made it extremely vicious as glass shrapnel is horrific. The hospital can find and dig out metal shrapnel but clear glass shards are nearly impossible to find. This is a somewhat iconic and historically significant piece of ordnance history. I am very happy with how this turned out because most displays are made with more original components and nice examples of those are practically non-existent making this a much nicer display option if you want to show what it looked like when it was made. If this was all original, the fuse alone in nice condition would cost nearly as much as this whole mine.
