Original German rubberized foul weather hat most associated with U-Boat men on watch duty. I have studied these a bit more since the last one I had and only found an increasing variety of materials, styles, and construction. This one is not marked, but the materials are unmistakably WWII German military.
The condition is pretty good, damn near unissued, with one fairly big exception: the liner has been cut out, leaving just a strip of it around the bottom like a head band. The markings were likely on the lining that was cut away. There are some extra loose threads on the forehead of the hat like something was sewn on at one time but has been removed. It doesn't look like it was insignia but maybe something like a custom U-Boot badge that only needed a few stitches. It is approximately a size 58. This version with the neck flap is what I usually see on U-boot crews, although it can be hard to tell in many pictures.
It is a nice looking cap that would look good on a mannequin. These are fairly iconic. After all, if you're on a U-Boot, the best, most heroic pictures to take are on the conning tower fighting the waves and they are very often wearing this.
