18L Trinkwasser Backpack Can

Original and extremely rare aluminum 18 liter Trinkwasser drinking water can in decent condition. This version is actually a back pack and could be fitted directly with leather shoulder straps. It could use a little cleaning, but is still very nice; it could be restored or left as-is. It has relatively few dents and dings and the original gasket is still present. The latch and hinge are in good condition. The bottom of the can shows some very old signs of charring from a fire where the water had been boiled.

There is a small hole drilled in the center of the lid. This seems to be fairly common on Trinkwasser cans and I am unsure if this is something done after the war or during the war in the field. I believe it very well could have been intended as a better pouring spout or funnel since the wide mouth of the can makes filling a canteen a challenge. All in all a very nice trinkwasser can. These make great display accessories and also serve a purpose at every reenactment.
