Original 1939 dated French mess kit which has a number of crude engravings. Noel is written on one side. The top fits the base very tightly and is rather hard to remove. One corner of the lid is dented. It would clean up pretty nicely. I think this was likely used by a French POW although captured French equipment was frequently issued to secondary German units and organizations and these can frequently be found in German use. It is a little amusing that Buffet is one of the things scratched in the lid.
