German Traditional Look Dress w/ Buttons in Back
(B-36" W-28" H-38")

This is a 1930s handmade cotton / rayon blend lightweight dress in very good condition.

Hips - 38"
Length - 43 3/4"

During the 1930s, the woman who made this was a seamstress who worked from her house and her husband was a traveling salesman. After the war, the area of Germany she lived in became East Germany and, under communism, she was not allowed to continue working from home. She packed away all of her remaining inventory in the attic and she and her husband went to work in a factory. Some of the dresses were still folded up from when they were originally put away. These dresses have been untouched since they were lovingly put into storage after the war. They may never have even been worn!

The dress is a very breathable lightweight fabric. It is made of (what appears to be) a cotton / rayon blend. It has a lovely blue flower print with pressed wood buttons up the back. This dress has a very traditional German look - with extra material at the shoulders, sewn in such a way to make shoulders fill out as well as extra fabric above the waist. Traditional clothing was very popular in the 1930s and early 1940s. There is a side opening that closes with two snaps.

CONDITION: Very good overall. We have a few of this dress available: some may slight issues from storage: on the center area of the waist there are a few light brown spots (I have not tried to launder them so am unsure if they can be cleaned out). Some of the wood buttons may have a small chip. There is a white trim along the collar and a few of the seams along the collar and the waist are slightly crooked (perhaps she was under a time constraint to have them made?). It may still have some of the fold lines from storage.
