Description
Original WWII SPARS women's Coast Guard officer's hat and photo. Size 23. The hat has a removable white cover. Both the hat and the cover have nice Coast Guard labels. There is a name written on the label in the hat, but it is hard to read. The hat is in overall good condition with some wear. There are some light brown spots on the white cover. General wear and discoloration on the inside and around the sweatband. The photo is not in good condition. The cardboard frame is torn and stained. The photo itself shows some wear.
SPARS were much less common than Navy WAVES. And officers even less so. The SPARS numbered over 10,000 women, but only 955 were officers (compared to 86,291 WAVES with 8,475 being officers).
