Vintage WWII Cadet Nurse summer uniform jacket and skirt.

    MEASUREMENTS (approximate):
    JACKET:

    Bust - 37"
    Waist - 30 1/2"
    Length - 24 1/2"
Sleeve (shoulder seam to cuff) - 21" **
    SKIRT:
    Waist - 26 1/2"
    Hips - 36"
    Length - 23 3/4" **

**The sleeves and skirt have been shortened, but the material is still there to take it back out. There is a 2.5" turnover on the cuff of the sleeve and the skirt has just under a 2" hem

Striped summer weight uniform. Cadet nurse patch on one sleeve. The buttons show some wear and discoloration. A few small rust specks and some pulls in the material.  Some very light staining. Brown spot on the back of the collar. The size tag is completely washed out.

This has not been laundered (if you decide to clean it, make sure to remove the buttons or they will rust and stain the jacket). The main buttons are held in place by cotter pins and the pocket and epaulet buttons are safety pinned in place. The epaulets were also tacked down in the middle, but the stitching has come undone.

A little about the Cadet Nurse program: To recruit as many women as possible, the requirements for joining were not set high. Women between the ages of 17 and 35 with high school education and in good health could apply. Marriage as a student was permitted. Cadet nurses received federal funds for tuition, board, room and uniforms (indoor and outdoor) in addition to a regular monthly allowance. Many cadet nurses later became army nurses.
