  • Description

Vintage 1940s pink dress with beading on the sleeves. It has a very unique style I have not seen before and may be maternity.

    MEASUREMENTS (approximate):
    Bust - 36"
    Waist - 25" up to 31 1/2"**
    Hips - 35"
    Length - 45 1/2"
Sleeve (shoulder seam to end of cuff) - 25"

**the material can be tied to make the waist adjustable. The mannequin's waist is 26 1/2" and it looks good on her. It could probably go smaller than 25" as well (I wasn't sure how small would look too small).

This dress has a really interesting construction. There is quite a bit of extra material at the waist that can be looped around and tied. Maternity dresses were NOT subject to rationing, so therefore companies could create some really beautiful pieces and they did try to market them to all women; not just pregnant women (the text photo is from an advertisement in October 1942 McCall's magazine).

There is lovely beaded designs on the sleeves - a few may be missing beads (nothing too obvious or detracting). Snaps at the waist. The material seems like a rayon blend? Note: the best representation of color is in the full body pictures on the mannequin (the close up pictures make it look lighter and duller).

Overall, decent condition, but it does have flaws. The dress has some light overall grayish discoloration (you can see the discoloration under the arms and on the collar area). There is a small tear in the front. Some staining along the shoulders (probably from improper storage on a metal hanger). The skirt has a stain on the front (almost a straight line). A few scattered tiny specks. The back has the start of a small hole near the fancy seams at the waist - there is also a bit of staining underneath that area. The bottom hem has some uneven stitching.
