8cm Gr.W.34 Schießtafel Factory Seconds
These are unfinished or partially finished. All of the engraving is done and some have partial enameling done. These plates are ones that didn't quite turn out to our liking so we decided not to invest any more time into them and just sell them as-is. No choice. We have far more invested in each plate than the listed price but that is how manufacturing goes sometimes. If you felt like putting a few hours work into one of these it could still make a decent to good plate. We just don't have that kind of time.
The description below is from the original listing for our reproduction plates, The last three photos are of a finished plate so you know what it should look like when finished. None of the ones for sale here are finished...
This is a reproduction 8cm Gr.W.34 Schießtafel range table. It is a very rare piece that virtually never comes up for sale in decent condition; originals are normally completely pitted and rusty with little or no writing left. We spent years working on these to ensure we got them done right the first time. We discovered 2 distinct manufacturing variations for this plate, both of which we were able to handle and study up close; there was an engraved plate and a stamped plate. This is a reproduction of the engraved version that is made on our own CNC mill. It takes about 20 hours. Each plate comes off the machine a little different as we are continuously making subtle changes to the program and our technique. These plates replicate the original very well including some flaws that occurred on original engraved plates. Sometime letters or numbers distort slightly depending on the condition of the cutting tool and many other factors. These are all perfectly correct and appropriate. We did correct one error we found on our original, (YES, our original had a serious typo!) These were likely engraved on a pattern machine and much like we keep refining our program they too likely refined the pattern and occasionally human error created slightly flawed plates. We know it was a typo based on the other examples we have handled and based on the fact the numbers on the plate follow a basic pattern. All of our plates are marked "kem 41" with a waffen amt to identify these as they trickle out into the secondary market. An original in OK condition (slight pitting but still legible) recently sold for over $600.
Remember, these are unfinished plates, so you will need to finish the enamel and bluing. We had sold finished plates for $225.
