Ein froher gast - wird niemals last (a happy guest is never a burden) wooden German bread plate. Roughly a WWII era piece, maybe a little newer. Fairly good condition with some wear.
I am not sure if you put this out for your guests if it would be interpreted as a kind thought or a subtle jab, as it kinda implies that your guest might have been a burden. No one was even talking about a guest being a burden and now we are. Thanks, plate. If I turn unhappy do I become a burden? Maybe I am just not the sort of guest this is directed at. I took something nice and just ruined it. This is probably more of a "live, laugh, love" thing.
