Original escape record book from the Kr.Gef.Arb.Kdo.No.416 which was a prisoner of war labor detachment that operated in Saffig, Germany which is near Koblenz. This is an exceptionally rare bit of history and it sounds like it would be a massively interesting book. The first page kicks things off nicely, "This book contains 32 pages, none of these pages are allowed to be removed". The next page is escape records with minimal details... 2 escapes, both escaped their jobsite at the same time. Then 32 pages of nothing. Apparently not a lot of people tried to escape, just those two scamps (Andre Hennequin and Roger Bertrand) that one time back in October of 42.
It is amusing to have something that is ostensibly a very serious record and then to have basically no records in it. Neither was recaptured so I assume their escape was either successful or whoever found them had no need to bring them back to camp or even bother to report or record what happened to them despite have a clear space to record it.
It is unclear to me if perhaps this was merely a temporary record book as it bares the official stamp from the work detail, but it is made from a student planner. It is very unofficial feeling, almost like an afterthought made official and they just used the first blank note book they had at hand. Regardless of all of this, it is an exceptionally rare thing to hold in your hands. It is also very feasible that this record book is short because the escape was successful, that isn't something guards and staff would normally outlast without some form of punishment or reassignment.
