• Gebirgsjäger Windjacke Wind Jacket Civilian? (42" Chest)

  • $225.00 USD $275.00 USD

  • Description

Vintage German windjacke in the standard Gebirgsjäger pattern except this jacket lacks the loops and buttons for shoulder boards. It is difficult to say with certainty what this is exactly due to the very non standard nature of a lot of Gebirgs equipment. I could easily see this being a pre war or war time private purchase civilian jacket, perhaps even the inspiration for the army pattern or it could be an early post war civilian version. I do feel comfortable saying it is civilian or private purchase not a military issued piece.

    MEASUREMENTS (approximate):
    Chest - 42"
    Length - 32"
    Sleeve - 23"
    Neck - 19"

The material is very interesting, while normal issued jackets did vary quite a lot in material, this falls outside of what I would consider "normal" while still having a a very familiar look and feel reminiscent of some Afrika Korps shirts. It is rather light weight and I am not sure how much wind it would realistically help break. Its a wind jacket built like a DAK shirt. I am about 90% of the way to saying it is literally made from DAK shirt material but i am lacking a shirt on hand to confirm this theory. I know there were Gebirgsjäger in Afrika, but I won't go so far as to say this was for them.

There is a small darned style repair above the right hand hand pocket. Tiny hole by a seam. It is also a little dirty. The dirt is just the general overall sort of thing you might expect for an outdoorsy type person with a favorite jacket. I don't know how well the staining shows up in the photos but it is throughout the whole jacket (I have not made any attempt to clean it).

This is a very desirable style of jacket and I myself keep a similar one handy as a light weight jacket.
