German Knips-Spiel game. This one has a fairly good chance of being prewar. The Bakelite container is quite thick and heavy duty. Inside are small colorful plastic discs. I do not know if it is complete, but there probably are some little discs missing. I have seen these containers reused as darning eggs in sewing kits. It would make sock repair a bit easier.
The Knips-Spiel game itself is actually older and dates back to the late 1800s. The colorful plastic discs do begin to appear in the game set in the 1930s, so despite looking very post war, they are actually quite similar to what you might see HJ kids playing with. This seems to have been a fairly common game as I have come across a lot of them over the years. I had always written it off as post war and it wasn't until I happened to see a prewar set with dateable markings that I looked into it more.
