• German Guard Shack Bird Feeder 3D Printed Kit

  • $85.00 USD

  • Description

This one is just for fun. A rather large 3D printed bird feeder in the shape of a German guard shack complete with a little lift gate (although the gate is fixed in the horizontal position to act as a perch).

    IT COMES UNPAINTED!!

This is a paint it yourself kit.
The pattern for painting is printed into the model so it is a little easier to paint, Like paint by numbers. It is printed in black PETG as black is the predominant color so you only really need to add red and white. Maybe add some gray to the cement lift gate parts if you are an over achiever.

The roof is a little oversized to shed water past the circular base. The roof is hinged. The hinge pins and the lift gate bar are pieces of plastic clothing hangers, so they are pretty easy to replace if something breaks or goes missing. The feeder has two holes for mounting screws, one is dead center so the feeder can swivel on it and the other is offset to fix it in place. I have included 2X3.5" deck screws. Do not over tighten the screws, the feeder is durable, but not indestructible.

    Features:

    • Hinged roof for filling
    • Large seed capacity
    • View ports for seed level
    • Drainage holes in base to keep seed dry
    • Relatively large feeding area to accommodate several birds
    • Raised perch edge around the feeding area to retain seed and provide a bird friendly perch
    • Sloped interior to distribute all seed
    • Front and side opening to distribute seed
    • PETG material for better long term outdoor performance
    • Includes mounting screws
    • Includes the plastic rods for the roof hinge and lift gate
    • Imprinted painting guide lines for the standard German stripe pattern
    • Way cooler than a normal bird feeder

SIZE: 16" tall and the base is around 12" in diameter

I did not originally intend to make these for sale. It was just a fun little project because our existing feeder broke. Many people expressed interest in the feeder, including people that just thought it was super cute, so I thought I would go ahead and make a few extras to sell. I do not claim that these are perfect, I could probably spend many, many more hours further over engineering it, but it is already better and more thought out than most feeders.

I wish I could sell these at a lower price point, but it actually takes a couple days to print just 1 full feeder and two rolls of material. That doesn't even account for printing failures, rejects, or other losses. Unfortunately this is just what I have to charge.
