German Winter Shoes in Box
Period German fuzzy steel buckle winter boots / shoes in like new condition although the box is a little beat up. Shoes of this design were produced for several decades both before, during and after the war. This pair has no distinctly post war markings, so is most likely 1940's or older. The box may not belong to the shoes but they were inside it when we found them.
The sole of the shoes is marked 42 but the box says 8 1/2 (English looking sizes were common in pre-war Germany). European size 42 is usually a US men's 9 and US women's 10 1/2. Check actual measurements listed against your own shoes if you intend to wear them. The inside sole measures a little more than 10 1/2" long and is a little more than 3 1/2" wide around the ball of the foot.
These shoes are shown in a advertisement from a late 1930s catalog. The price is in RM (Reichsmarks).
