Blumentage (flower days) took place in various German cities in the years from 1910 until the beginning of the First World War . On each day, a specific flower was chosen and artificial flowers were distributed for charity in exchange for monetary donations. The streets were decorated with the appropriate flowers and food and drink were sold.

Kornblumentag (Cornflower Day) used the importance of the cornflower as a "Prussian flower" and symbol of German-ness , which arose in the 19th century. Organizers were often war associations, and collections were made "for the benefit of sick and needy veterans" of the wars of unification.
