  • Description

Original Italian made German typewriter M40 vereinfachte Kriegs ausführung or simplified war pattern. This is the only Italian made typewriter with a German keyboard I have ever seen in the wild. The base color of the machine is also a German gray color. This typewriter does need some repair. It really needs a good deep clean; that would help this thing a lot, some of the keys are sticky and all could move a little more freely. There is one small tooth on the carriage that is cracked and bent out of the way which will need to be repaired. This tooth happens to be the stop which should prevent the carriage from advancing more than a single space when a key or the space bar is pressed. I have tried to point to this piece with a mechanical pencil in one picture. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to repair the part, but extracting it to do so is best left to whoever deep cleans this. One of the little rubber feet is cracked in half, it still stays on the base most of the time, but will fall off if moved a lot. If you are just looking for a display piece, I think its good as is. It has clearly not been touched in a long time. It looks like something you might see in the diorama in a museum showing a German HQ.

I was very excited to find this. It is just very cool to see an Italian made German war production typewriter. My excitement has diminished a little each time I have moved it since then. It is by far the heaviest typewriter I have ever owned - it weighs over 32 pounds! This is not a travel typewriter, this is meant to be delivered to an office and stay there.

Note on price and shipping: this thing is massively heavy and will require extensive packaging to arrive safely. It will qualify for free shipping on the website, but realistically that has to be built into the price a bit. So if this feels a bit expensive, keep in mind the post office is actually getting a big chunk of it. I already brought this back from Germany too, which was very expensive. If you wanted to arrange a pickup, I could do a deal on it as well.
