Reproduction German soldier's small porcelain keepsake box. Graphics of late 1800s / early 1900s soldiers. The lid says "Hier leg ich meine Waffen nieder und kehre froh zur Heimath weider" (Here I lay down my arms and return from my homeland). The inside says, "Hier in diesem tiefen Schacht, schlact derelli neur die Schlacht" (Here in this deep shaft, the battle fights again). The phrases don't translate well as they are written with a rhyming scheme.
These were originally made as keepsake boxes for a soldier's time in the service (to store any medals, awards, etc), but could also be used as a sweetheart piece. Brand new in great condition.
