Description
Pre-war small Nestor Gianaclis Queen cigarette tin with good graphics. It originally contained 10 cigarettes. It is in fairly good condition with some wear and age.
Nestor Gianaclis was a Greek who arrived in Egypt in the 1860s and started a tobacco trade to Europe. Egyptian cigarettes became very fashionable as a luxury cigarette in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They were in such high demand that many counterfeit companies appeared, offering cheaper and lower quality tobacco and using brand names and packaging meant to evoked Egyptian themes (the most notable being Camel). Nestor Queen even produced 22-karat gold tipped cigarettes! Egyptian tobacco popularity declined a bit after WWI, but the industry continued until it was nationalized by the Egyptian government in 1952.
