Original Steinnuss 15mm tradition buttons in very good condition. Price is for 12 buttons, still strung together. These are dead stock buttons made from a South American nut that came to Germany as ballast in cargo ships. A button maker got a hold of them and found it made really nice buttons.
Steinnussknöpfe were quite common in the 1930's and a more simple rounded version is frequently found on German uniform hats like the Bergmutz. I actually have a super late war zeltbahn at home that has Steinnuss buttons mixed in with Bakelite buttons.
These particular buttons are an imitation of German traditional horn buttons where they left the dark rough outer surface of the nut in the same way they left the outer surface of deer antlers on their traditional jacket buttons. Very nice item if you have a period traditional shirt or jacket (or sweater or dress).
