  • Description

Nice Third Reich era religious hand carved wood wall decoration. Suche Jesum und Sein Licht! (Search for Jesus and his light!). It shows some age and wear.

The font and style is typical for the Third Reich blood and soil movement, a restoration of classical values and materials. The Tannenberg font used is closely tied to the Nazi movement as they searched for a Germanic font free from Jewish ties associated with some other common fonts of the era. Yes, font was actually a fairly big topic of debate at that time. Such an apparently simple item can hold considerable history when you know what to look for. Most would only see a nice German font but there is a reason this was chosen and a reason it is so frequently used on other Third Reich and political items and publications in the 1930s. It was considered a Pure German script. The next stop after this would have been writing it in runes. However, the Party banned this and other Franktur fonts in official documents in 1941 for a more cleaner and easy to read font.

The pamphlet by Deutsche Christen uses very similiar font.
